Here’s a competition for short films of all stripes. Submit your best work and get a chance to win P50,000 per category. It’s as short and simple as that.


Push your creativity to the limits and redefine the short film medium with these five (5) categories:

  • Narrative
  • Experimental
  • Animation
  • Documentary
  • Music Video


You can submit your short film if you meet the following criteria:

  • a Filipino filmmaker, 18 years old and above.
  • not yet credited as a director on more than two (2) mainstream or independent, digital or theatrical, full length feature.

The filmmaker can only submit two (2) finished short film and must be able to comply with the festival schedule. Only one (1) can be selected per category.


  • Entries must not have PREMIERED BEFORE JANUARY 1, 2019. This includes thesis films and class projects that have been screened in schools.
  • Short films must be UNDER 20 MINUTES, inclusive of the opening and closing credits.
  • Dialogue should be primarily in Filipino or any Philippine language as appropriate with English subtitles.
  • Revised versions of a film, or a film re-submitted under a different title shall be disqualified.
  • Format has to be landscape. Can be 10-bit pro-res or .mp4.
  • Music, literature, and artworks used in any entry must be original, licensed, or in the public domain.
  • We will need a private link to your film secured with password. Please attach it in the link below to be submitted on or before 31 October 2019, along with a short synopsis of your film, official poster, artcards and other assets.
  • Please name your files with this format: giff_category_TITLE_, giff_TITLE_poster_

Deadline of submission is EXTENDED until OCTOBER 31, 2019.


Twenty-five 25 shortlisted films will be chosen, with five (5) entries from each category. Announcement of winners will be on 20 November 2019 and their short films will have on-ground screenings at the event. Among these shortlisted ones, only one winner per category will receive 50,000 pesos from each category.

Special awards include:

  • Audience Choice
  • Jury Prize
  • Best Director

Entries selected as finalists cannot be withdrawn from the competition.

Once you have been selected as a finalist, you must agree that .giff can use the video clips of your video for the promotion of the festival.

Rights to the film will remain with the filmmaker.



Story/ Concept (30)
The film showcases a compelling story or concept.

Execution (50)
The film is delivered with clear and effective storytelling or message and is made with different elements of filmmaking in mind (cinematography, production design, sound, music, acting).

Creativity (20)
The film uses innovative and unique techniques or forms.
